When Sweety checked the items in her own pantry, she was shocked to find high levels of sugar, sodium, and unknown additives.

India is currently facing an alarming rise in lifestyle diseases and is often referred to as the world’s diabetes capital.

Research suggests that 60 per cent of daily food consumption in the country now comes from packaged items.

This situation is so critical that the Indian Parliament and the Prime Minister have discussed the urgent need to reduce the use of palm oil and sugar in the national diet.

How the FactsScan Platform Operates

The application currently tracks approximately 100,000 Indian packaged food products.

It uses data directly from product labels and applies health standards established by the FSSAI and the World Health Organization (WHO).

• The app calculates a unique health score based on processing levels and chemical additives
• A specific barcode system ensures that users see data for products sold in the Indian market rather than international versions
• The user interface uses simple colors so that both technical and non-technical users can quickly identify dangerous ingredients
• If a product receives a low health grade, the app provides recommendations for healthier alternatives in the same category
• The database is growing rapidly through crowdsourcing, with users submitting over 500 new products every single day
